In-Water Loungers

Living Luxurious
Clean lines everywhere: in-water loungers, linear fire tables and stacked stone, all built for long evenings in Gold Canyon.
The Modern Escape is a contemporary backyard in Gold Canyon, with the mountains above town filling the view past the back wall. The house is flat planes, dark stacked-stone columns and big glass, and the yard follows the same rules: straight lines, a short list of materials and a layout you can read in one glance from the patio.
The pool is a clean rectangle with a deep blue finish. Along one side, a sun shelf holds a pair of sculptural in-water loungers with a small table between them, so you can lie half in the water and watch the sky change. A raised spa sits at the corner closest to the house.
Fire is the other half of the design. Under the covered patio, a long linear fire table clad in stacked stone sits in front of a deep sectional, lined up with the pool so the flames and the water share the same view. Stacked stone also wraps the built-in grill station at the corner of the patio, matching the stone columns of the house, so the new work and the architecture look like they were built together.
Pale stone pavers cover the deck and the patio, and a band of turf wraps the outer edge of the deck, with stepping pavers set into it along the side yard. Low walls topped with iron view fencing keep the backyard open to the desert and the mountains beyond.
At night the light stays low and warm: recessed lights in the patio ceiling, pool lights and landscape lights washing the back wall and its plantings. Out front, uplit cactus line a paver driveway through boulders and desert plantings, and a stone-columned entry courtyard leads to the door through an iron gate.
The decisions that shape The Modern Escape, from the water to the edges of the lot.

The grill station and fire table use stacked stone that matches the house columns, so new work and architecture agree.
