Pool Builder in Ocotillo, Chandler: Inside Family Focused

October 25, 2026 · 6-minute read

Ocotillo is a master-planned community in south Chandler, built around lakes and a 27-hole golf course. If you live there and you are searching for a pool builder in Ocotillo, AZ, you are probably picturing a backyard that works for everyone in the house.

We are based in San Tan Valley and serve the East Valley, and we do not know every street in Ocotillo. What we can show you is a yard in nearby Gilbert designed around family time, along with what to think about before your own project starts. We call it Family Focused.

Family Focused in Gilbert

Family Focused in Gilbert puts a pool and spa at the center of the yard, with a turf lawn beside them for yard games. Two pergolas, one over a bar and one over a seating area, shade the deck, string lights run along the back, and a fire pit sits in the corner in front of a row of citrus trees.

The pool itself runs long and straight. A raised stacked-stone wall along one side sends sheer descents into the water, and a sun shelf at the far end holds loungers under blue umbrellas. The round spa is wrapped in stacked stone and capped in travertine, close to the house. Travertine covers the deck from the back door to the back wall.

What Ocotillo Homeowners Tend to Ask For

Ocotillo is known for its lakes and fairways, so a backyard here has plenty to compete with. Many homeowners want the yard to feel like a private resort that holds its own against the scenery. We cannot speak for every lot in the neighborhood, since sizes and layouts vary from one enclave to the next, but the goals we hear from families in the East Valley are consistent.

Family Focused answers each of those in a separate zone. That separation is the useful lesson. When the water, the bar, the lawn and the fire pit each have their own corner, a quiet evening and a full party can happen in the same yard without anyone in the way.

Planning Around Your Lot and Your HOA

A good layout starts with measurements. Setbacks, easements, utility lines and the position of the house all decide how much pool and how much patio you can fit. If your home is in an HOA, plan for an architectural review as well as the city permit. Pergolas, fire features and walls may each need their own sign-off, so we like to submit everything as one package. Our post on pool permits and HOA approval explains the general process, and the details always depend on your address.

If your lot is on the smaller side, start with our guide to pool shapes for lots under a quarter acre. A long, narrow pool like the one at Family Focused leaves more room for lawn and seating than a wide freeform shape.

Shade, Lighting and Fire

In Chandler, the yard only works if it handles the heat. At Family Focused, two pergolas do much of that job: one covers a stacked-stone bar with stools, and the other shades a seating area across the pool. Our outdoor living team plans these structures with the pool, so the posts, footings and sight lines are settled before the deck goes in.

After sunset, the same yard changes. String lights glow over the pool and spa, and the fire pit becomes the gathering spot. Our water and fire features work covers sheer descents, fire pits and fire bowls, and a fire feature is a fine anchor for cooler months. The raised spa gives you somewhere warm to sit once the weather cools. For lighting scenes and pump schedules you can run from a phone, we build around Pentair equipment, part of our smart automation work.

Hardscape, Turf and the Rest of the Yard

The turf at Family Focused sits right next to the travertine, with space for cornhole and open play, and it keeps the kids off the deck. Potted succulents mark the corners of the pool and palms rise behind the sheer wall. Landscape design and hardscape are drawn together with the pool so grades, drainage and materials agree. If you already have a pool and want a new yard around it, a pool remodel may be the better starting point.

Budget varies with scope. In the Phoenix metro, a new pool with a spa, shade structures and a fire feature typically runs well into six figures, and our breakdown of what a $125k pool gets you shows where the money goes. Once permits and approvals are in place, construction typically runs eight to fourteen weeks.

Ocotillo Pool Questions, Answered

Do I need HOA approval to build a pool in Ocotillo?
A new pool needs a city building permit. If your home is in an HOA, expect an architectural review before construction. We confirm the current requirements for your address and prepare the submittals.
Can a pool fit a typical Ocotillo backyard?
Often, yes. The answer depends on your lot, setbacks and easements, so we measure first. Family Focused shows how a pool, spa, lawn and fire pit can share one yard when each zone has a clear job.
How long does a custom pool take to build?
Construction typically runs eight to fourteen weeks once permits and approvals are in place. Design and HOA review come before that, so plan on starting well ahead of the season you want to swim.
What does a custom pool with outdoor living cost in the Phoenix metro?
It depends on scope. A new pool with a spa, shade structures and a fire feature typically runs well into six figures in the Phoenix metro. A design call gives you a real number for your yard.
