Pool Builder for Power Ranch, Gilbert: Inside Family Focused

October 9, 2026 · 6-minute read

Power Ranch sits in the south end of Gilbert, and it is a master-planned community, which means the neighborhood already has a point of view about shared space: parks, trails and community amenities close to home. If you live there, your own backyard has a different job. It is where the family spends the evenings that do not involve a schedule.

We are Gilbert-based, and the question we hear most from families here is some version of "can we have all of it?" Pool, grass, shade, a place for the grown-ups, a place for the kids. This guide uses one of our builds, Family Focused, to show how a yard can say yes to all of it.

Family Focused in Gilbert

Family Focused in Gilbert is a family resort yard. The pool and spa sit under pergolas, with sheer water descents spilling into the pool. A turf lawn gives the kids room for cornhole and other yard games. String lights run overhead, and a fire pit sits in the middle of a row of citrus trees. Its tagline is Captured Memories, and the photos explain why.

The night view above is the one most people remember. The raised spa is lined with stacked stone, the pool glows from within, and the lights overhead make the whole yard feel like a room. A neighbor's evening swim does not need much more than that.

Why Power Ranch Backyards Reward a Family Plan

We will be careful here: we have not surveyed every lot in Power Ranch, and sizes and setbacks vary from street to street. What we can say is that homes in master-planned communities like this one tend to sit in an association, so a few steps come before any digging. If your home is in an HOA, you will likely need architectural approval along with the town permit. Rules change by sub-association, so ask yours for its current guidelines early. Our post on pool permits and HOA approval covers how that process usually runs, and we confirm the details for each address.

Once approvals are mapped out, the design starts with a simple exercise. List everything the family does outside, and sort it by time of day. Morning coffee and kids in the shallows. Afternoon shade. Evening dinner, then something warm and bright to gather around. Each answer becomes a zone.

Giving Every Zone Its Own Surface

Family Focused works because each activity has its own ground. The pool deck is pale travertine-style paving that stays friendly underfoot. The lawn is turf, so cornhole and tag happen without a sprinkler schedule. Under one pergola a bar with stools faces the lawn, and a second pergola shades a seating area at the far end.

Turf, pavers and two pergolas keep each part of the yard distinct.

That separation is also what keeps a busy yard calm. Kids spread out over the grass while adults sit under cover with a view of the water. If you are working with a smaller lot, our guide to pool shapes for Arizona lots under a quarter acre shows how shape choices free up room for a lawn or a patio. The building blocks are all things we do in-house. Outdoor living covers the pergolas and bar, and an outdoor kitchen can join them. Hardscape handles the paving and the transitions to turf, and landscape design brings in the plantings.

A Fire Pit in the Citrus

The last zone in Family Focused is the quietest. A round stacked-stone fire pit sits on the paving, with two white benches facing it and a row of citrus trees behind. Strings of lights glow through the palms beyond. It is the place you would send everyone after dinner, with marshmallows if the kids have their way.

A fire feature gives the yard a second season. In the cooler months it draws the family out of the house long after the pool has gone quiet. Our water and fire features team can add a fire pit, a fire bowl or sheer descents like the ones in this project.

Planning for Summer Use

Gilbert summers push the family outside early and late, so shade placement matters as much as the pool shape. In Family Focused, the pergolas sit beside the water rather than over it, which keeps the sun on the pool for swimming and gives adults cover a few steps away. String lights run along the pergola posts, so the same structures work at noon and at nine at night.

Think about the walk from the back door too. Pavers that stay cooler underfoot, a clear path from the patio to the bar, and a lawn near the house all make the yard easier for small children and guests. We map those routes on the plan before the first stake goes in.

Lighting, Spa and Automation

Because the family uses this yard at night, light carries most of the design. String lights set the mood overhead, pool lights show off the water, and the spa wall glows. We build with Pentair equipment, which means lighting scenes, spa heat and pump schedules can all run from an app. That is the idea behind our smart automation and cleaning systems work. A raised spa adds warmth for cooler evenings.

Budget and Timing, in General Terms

Phoenix-metro pricing varies widely with scope. A pool refresh sits at the lower end. A new pool with a spa, pergolas, turf and a fire pit typically runs well into six figures. For a closer look at what drives the number, read what a $125k pool actually gets you. Your design consultation gives you a real figure, and we would rather give you that than a guess in a blog post.

Power Ranch Pool Questions, Answered

Is a pool allowed in my Power Ranch backyard?
Usually, yes, but approvals come first. Power Ranch is a master-planned community with homeowner associations, so if your home is in one, expect an architectural review in addition to the town permit. Rules differ by sub-association, so we confirm the current requirements for your address.
Can a pool, a lawn and a fire pit share one backyard?
Yes, with planning. Family Focused fits a pool and spa, a turf lawn, two pergolas and a fire pit into one yard by giving each zone its own surface and its own edge. We check the exact fit against your lot dimensions.
What does a family-style pool project cost in Gilbert?
It depends on scope. In the Phoenix metro, a new pool with a spa, shade structures, turf and outdoor living typically runs well into six figures. A design consultation gives you a real number for your yard.
Can the lighting and spa be controlled from a phone?
Yes. We build with Pentair automation, so lighting, spa heat and pump schedules can be managed from an app.
